Newborn
Hospital newborn photo session
I hopped in Grandma’s vehicle and we were off to Edmonton’s Grey Nuns Hospital for a newborn photo session. It was very noisy in the vehicle and we adults could barely have a conversation. The two little ladies sitting in the backseat were quite excited! And with good reason—they were going to meet their baby brother for the first time!
There was so much emotion, enthusiasm, anticipation, joy and love in the hospital room! The big sisters couldn’t wait to hold their newborn brother. They wanted to touch and kiss him. They were amazed to see this little being the size of a doll, and alive!
My oldest is naturally nurturing and I just love that about her! This photo captures her doing skin-to-skin with her little brother when he was just a few hours old. All her idea!
Robin
Are you worried about the outcome of an unposed hospital newborn photo session?
Robin was a little worried. This was her third newborn photo session with me and her first unposed one. I was the one who suggested doing a Fresh 48 session for Brady—a documentary newborn session that takes place a few hours after the birth of a child. And I’m so happy I did! The feelings and emotions that come with documentary photography sessions are second to none. The images are unique to each family. They can’t be reproduced or perfectly planned since they are completely moment-driven. It was a real privilege for me to photograph their story and see the big sisters’ reactions. Totally priceless!
Robin’s worries dissipated when she saw her photo gallery:
I am absolutely in love with this image. This was a few hours after we welcomed our sweet baby boy into the world and my daughters were meeting their brother for the first time. It’s so real, there is so much going on but it’s happy and relaxed at the same time. The crazy thing is I almost didn’t get these images! When Marie-Pierre approached me about doing a Fresh 48 photo session I was hesitant. What if I didn’t look my best immediately after having a baby? Even after the session I was skeptical. But then I saw the photos and I cried. They are such beautiful moments in our life that I feel so lucky to have. The joy on my girls faces holding their brother, the interaction between us, the love and happiness in the room… these are all palpable in these photos. If you are considering lifestyle photography or a Fresh 48 session DO IT!!! You will not regret it.
