MY

STORY

Bonjour! I’m Marie-Pierre, a Sherwood Park and Edmonton family photographer, and an easygoing mother of two who believes laughter is the cure for many problems.

When I put on my business hat, I’m a photographer, graphic designer and illustrator. On a more personal side, those who know me say I’m funny, caring, joyful and reserved. I think these adjectives suit me pretty well. I like to laugh a lot. I have a very soft spot for newborns, babies and children, who also seem to have one for me.

I enjoy meeting new people and discovering their way of life. I feel I can learn so much from their unique experiences, different points of view, culture and background. I dream of a world where everyone is respected and accepted by others. A world where each person is confident and proud of who they are.

01/Beginnings

I speak French. When I was 20, I ventured from Quebec to Alberta to live in an English-speaking environment. I thought I was leaving for the summer… Little did I know, a month or two after setting foot in Edmonton I would meet the man who’d later become my husband, my business partner and the father of my children. And I never moved back!

02/Outdoors

I’m an outdoorsy kind of person and a nature lover. Camping only feels authentic to me when I sleep in a tent and am far away from luxury. I like to keep busy and be on the move.

I can’t wait to be a part of your next outdoor or camping adventure!

03/Travel

I love to travel. I especially enjoy discovering people and cultures that are completely different than mine. One of my dreams came true when I lived on and off in Cameroon, Africa, for about 2 years. I got to develop great friendships and was exposed to the culture while training interns and teaching graphic design to young adults. The experiences there were eye-opening, humbling, heartwarming and bewildering.

Are you planning a trip out of town? Tell me about your plans and I could create memorable photographs of your travel experiences!

04/Opposites

I have eclectic tastes. I love clean and modern design, but I’m also attracted to vintage places and objects, old decrepit buildings, raw textures… I love classic, I love quirky. I love kids with cute clothes. I love kids who create their own unique fashion with unmatched top and bottom. I like things and people with a lot of character!

This goes to show I will enjoy photographing your family no matter what you look like, where you live and what your lifestyle is like. The most important is to be yourself!

05/Water

There’s something I love about water. Wading, swimming and playing in the warm waves by a nice sandy beach… Although Alberta is far from any sea or ocean, I’m happy we have found a few favorite spots to play close to home.

If you’re anything like me, let me know in advance and I’ll come to your session prepared, with the proper gear to get wet!

06/Temperature

While I love the snow and winter sports, I should probably have been born in a tropical country —I’m always cold and I love hot weather.

Here’s a hint for you: if you plan on swimming in a stream or pool during our time together, I might not get wet unless the water is very warm or you have a wetsuit for me!

07/Crafts

I love to do crafts with my kids. When they were younger, I often ended up doing most of the craft by myself because I misjudged the complexity of the task. Thankfully, things have improved with experience!

08/Mess

My house is a mess more often than not. I live with busy kids. Plus, I’d rather spend my time doing what I love than spending it cleaning! I was quite happy when someone pointed me to a study about creative people being messy.

So don’t worry about the mess in your own home when I come in for your session. I will work around it and ignore it, or if it’s an important part of your story, I will document it. When your kids are older and have left your home, you might actually miss that time when your house was full… of life!

09/Cheese

Don’t get me wrong—I stay away from the kind that makes you smile for the camera! Many years ago, my husband lovingly diagnosed me with cheese disease, an inconsequential food addiction I might have transmitted to our son!

So if you hire me for a day in the life session and decide to feed me some cheese, know I won’t be disappointed!

10/Coffee

I’m one of those rare people who don’t drink coffee. I do enjoy ice cold water, freshly squeezed orange juice with extra pulp, Corona beer, wine and sangria, to name a few.

Should we say cheers to meeting each other over a drink?

I love a good adventure and I’ll follow you wherever you go. I’ll do everything to create unique photos of your family and show you a different perspective on your life while you relax, enjoy yourself and forget about the rest.

Marie-Pierre was very friendly and easy to be around.

She made me feel comfortable almost as if she wasn’t there. She captured real moments and never asked us to pose or re-do anything. She was always ready to capture the best moments of our family interactions making it feel more real and providing images that felt natural.
