Escape to Canmore for a family photo session
Mallory and Jeff are from Edmonton and both share the same passion for fitness and the outdoors. A few years ago, they lucked out on a great condo deal in the Three Sisters development in Canmore so they have a great place to stay when they want to escape away from the city and enjoy the outdoors. What better place for their family to go biking, hiking, playing in the water and appreciate the scenic views of Alberta’s magnificent Rocky Mountains?
As is the case for many mothers, Mallory is the one taking most of the pictures in her family. She thought it would be nice to have some photos of authentic family moments where she can be seen interacting with her loved ones. During her photo session pre-consultation, she mentioned her mom, Evan’s grandma, was an extension of their family. Since she regularly participates in their life and goes above and beyond to help, she joined in on the activities during our time together.
The day began with the morning routine. While the adults were working in the kitchen, Evan was busy exploring the condo. He was fascinated with the sounds of the washing machine and loved going up and down the stairs. Everyone was enjoying their time and getting ready to go out for a walk in the beautiful park behind the property. I especially liked how Jeff did Evan’s hair while pretending to read him a book. He put a bit of putty on his fingers and pinched some hair to create a tiny faux hawk. Good technique, Jeff!
Brunch at The Summit Cafe in Canmore
The family enjoys eating great meals together. We ended up going for brunch to The Summit Cafe, a nice restaurant that serves all day breakfast. They have a simple outdoor patio with views of the surrounding mountains. Since it was busy, you can tell it must be a favourite with the locals. Plus, their brunch plates looked delicious! Being a mom of young children, I loved how they give a toy to each group when they place their order—it keeps the kids entertained and it’s easy for the workers to identify the tables!
Family photo session continues at Quarry Lake in Canmore
We finished the session at Quarry Lake, one of the family’s favourite places to hang out in Canmore. Mallory told me it was a popular location for wedding and family photo sessions in Canmore. I quickly understood why! The landscape is gorgeous, with large grassy areas surrounding the lake and the imposing mountains framing the whole setting. It would also be an amazing picnic spot for families and friends alike!
Many toddlers love playing in the water and Evan is no exception to the rule. He got his fill of water play that afternoon at Quarry Lake! I put on my rubber boots and went in the water to get a different point of view. Evan was not really dressed to play in the water, but he ended up trying to follow me and fell sitting straight in the water!
Thanks to this half day in the life session, Mallory now gets to be seen and remembered as an important part of her family life. She got herself a gorgeous frame collection that reminds her daily of that day and a book that became Evan’s favourite bedtime story.
Sitting down with Marie-Pierre during the ordering appointment was a very connecting experience. I loved the unveiling of the photos in the slideshow and the beautiful touches (i.e. the wrapping, the music). Seeing the images made me feel like I could go back and transport in time. I saw how I felt, what we talked about and the connection and emotion we had in the moment. Even a few years after our session, the photos are a treasure to capture our family at that point in time. We still look at them regularly and our son loves them. All of our favourite places are pictured in our photo book and it was his favourite bedtime story for a while. Now, he brings it to us when he wants to go back to the mountains—a special place for our family—or connect with his happy memories. He has a big smile on his face and it has helped us also work on his language skills.
