Backyard fun | Sherwood Park family photography
This Sherwood Park family spends a lot of time in their backyard. They thought it would be the perfect setting for their short family photography session—and with good reason! They have a nice outdoor kitchen and dining area, a separate patio where they can have conversations and chill out, a large play corner for the kids, a garden, swings, a hammock… I love how they have decorated their deck with various vintage items and signs. They have definitely made this space comfortable, inviting and their own.
Let the backyard fun begin!
Mom is a teacher on summer vacation and dad works from home because of the pandemic. The kids like to play outside with their parents as soon as the work day is over. They are a very active family and the children have a lot of energy. I asked them if their play was always that intense and they said yes—with dad! During my time with them, I witnessed a great connection between each member of the family.
Rivalries are not uncommon between the two siblings because of their age difference. However, with the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions, the duo got a lot closer. That’s why, when she saw the photos from their family session, their mother thought it was nice to have a few pictures of them having fun together. The following two images are the ones she chose to display on their walls.
All emotions are welcome
A wide range of emotions can be photographed with documentary family photography, and I love it! The images created are a true representation of what life is like. They are a way to celebrate everyone’s personality. They help us remember the joys and struggles of childhood and parenthood. They show our kids we love them unconditionally, and that it’s okay for them to be mad, have tantrums and cry. As parents, we might feel exhausted or helpless at times, but wouldn’t you agree that a tear rolling down a child’s cheek makes a beautiful photograph? One that will be cherished forever…
The younger child in this family went from happy to sad to happy again in the blink of an eye! And that is how she is in real life.
