Meaningful gift ideas your family will love

Are you a last minute holiday shopper? Not sure what to get your loved ones this year? Here are 6 meaningful gift ideas your family will love.

1. Print a photo book

Deadlines are fast approaching to get a photo book printed in time for the holidays, but there’s still time!

Blurb has a good promotion going on until December 11. If you have a little time to spare this week and over the weekend, you can do it!

Although I’ve never printed a book with Photobook Canada, a friend showed me one of their books and the quality was good. They also have a promotion going on and the deadline to order a book in time for the holidays is December 13.

The key to get this done in time is to keep it simple. Go through your photos and pick your favourite ones. They don’t have to be the very best, but they should be the most meaningful. Choose a portrait or two of each family member, photos of the entire family in action if you have some (it can sometimes be hard to get everyone in the frame unless you ask someone to take a photo for you or use a tripod) and photos that tell a story.

To simplify the design work, go for a super simple layout like one photo per page. Remember— most of the time, less is more!

2. Print your favourite photos and frame them

A few years ago, I ordered each of my kids a personalized Lost My Name book from Wonderbly. The story is customized with the letters of your child’s name and the illustrations are gorgeous. Since then, Wonderbly has added many books to their collection. You can find books for kids, adults and various occasions in English and French. The cut-off date to order in time for the holidays is December 12 for standard delivery and December 18 for speedy delivery.

5. Book a photo session with your favourite Edmonton family photographer!

If you or someone you know have been thinking about hiring me for a day in the life or a shorter storytelling family photo session and money is a concern, the holidays are a great time to get a little financial help. Ask family and friends to offer you a gift card to get you a step closer to your dream photos or offer one to someone you love!

6. Get a miniature Marie-Pierre Photography framed photo

Okay, I’m cheating! This one is not personalized and has nothing to do with your family, but I had to plug it in! I currently have five fine art framed photos exhibited in the Miniatures exhibition at CAVA in Edmonton. They are some of my favourite macro photos of nature and they’re only $40 each. They are 7 x 5 photos framed to 10 x 8. You can see and purchase them at the CAVA gallery at 9103 95 Avenue NW, Edmonton, until December 23, 2023.

Happy shopping!
