Life in a Morning photography exhibition—7 years old
Part 4 of 12
My bilingual Life in a Morning exhibition presents 104 black and white photographs with written blurbs about the morning routine of 12 girls and women aged 0 to 102 years old. It shows the differences and similarities between the routine of each person depending on their age, status and occupation. It’s a representation of how life evolves in a morning and how certain habits remain throughout life.
I wrote the blurbs as if the person I photographed was talking. Here’s a 7-year-old girl’s story.

Mon exposition bilingue La vie en un matin présente 104 photographies en noir et blanc accompagnées de textes descriptifs à propos de la routine matinale de 12 filles et femmes âgées de 0 à 102 ans. On y découvre les différences et les ressemblances entre la routine de chaque personne selon son âge, sa situation familiale et son emploi du temps. On voit comment la vie évolue en un matin et comment certaines habitudes demeurent tout au long de l’existence.
J’ai écrit les textes comme si c’était la personne que j’ai photographiée qui parlait. Voici l’histoire d’une fille de sept ans.
7 years old / 7 ans
One of my brothers had a bad sleep and is unwell today. I have a feeling we’ll spend a quiet morning at home! It’s my turn to make waffles with mom and I prefer when nobody else is in the kitchen while we’re cooking. I’m also looking forward to playing on my tablet with my friend. She video called me while I was preparing the batter and I had to end the conversation to return to my chores.
Un de mes frères a mal dormi et ne se sent pas très bien aujourd’hui. J’ai l’impression que nous passerons un matin tranquille à la maison! C’est à mon tour de faire des gaufres avec maman et je préfère que personne d’autre ne soit dans la cuisine pendant que nous mettons la main à la pâte. J’ai aussi hâte de retrouver mon amie sur ma tablette pour jouer avec elle. Elle m’a appelée par vidéoconférence pendant que je cuisinais et j’ai dû couper court à la conversation pour retourner à mes tâches.
